Halo 3 is coming out in ‘07. “OMG, REALLY?!?!?! NO WAI!!!!!” Yeah, wai.
Obviously, there’s going to be a LOT of hype for a game of this scale. And with that hype, comes rabid fanboys wanting to get their hands on ANYTHING Halo 3. And of course, those same gamers are going to buy the most expensive version that comes with the stupidest things. “Three more discs with no gameplay value AND the Halo Spartan Mjolnir Mark VI Helmet Replica that could fit on a cat for only 100 dollars? I’m SO there!”
Yeah I bet you are. In fact, I bet you’re so desperate for more Halo, that you tried to sign up for the Xbox Live Multiplayer Beta. And 75% of you probably didn’t make it. Sucks to be you, right?
So a few weeks ago, the news came out that there’s another chance. In an ad for Crackdown in a recent Game Informer, apparently there’s an invitation for the Halo 3 multiplayer beta. Don’t believe it? Take a look:
Now, I know what some of you are probably thinking. “I gotta go to EB to reserve Crackdown RIGHT NOW!!!!” You can go ahead and do that. But think about this. You’re going to go spend $60 this Spring for a game you probably don’t care about, just to get a taste of ANOTHER game that will cost you $60-100 in the SAME year.
And what if you DO reserve this game, only to find that your copy is not one of the “specially marked boxes”? How are you going to feel? You’re going to feel jipped. You’re going to realize that we will spend a crapload of money for anything that says ”Halo” on it. You’ll realize what Microsoft realized so long ago.
You’re going to realize that you’re stupid.
Its happened to many, so do not feel too bad about it. But also realize this: Microsoft is using your love of Halo to propel a new IP. And then realize that Microsoft is using Bungie’s skills to benefit their own game (Crackdown isn’t being made by Bungie), thus making themselves more profit on your stupidity.
Keep in mind, that I’m not saying Halo 3 will suck. I’m not flaming Bungie in any way. What I want you to know, is that Microsoft is using you. I want you to know that paying outrageous prices to play a BETA of a third-party game is a way to prove your stupidity.

Even though companies use these tactics..ummmm, like…all the fucking time, you bring up a good point:
Microsoft wants to screw you. Right up the ass. That might be an exaggeration.
Hell, maybe purchasing/preordering a copy of Crackdown isn’t such a bad thing. From what I hear, it’s not half-bad. I say, if you’re fast enough and if you like Halo, this actually could be a worthwhile purchase.
You’re such a Bungie hater, Arbiter.
Yes, but what if Crackdown didn’t have the Halo 3 beta keys? Would people actually buy it? Probably, but only a fifth of the beta people.
And that’s exactly why they’re keeping them in.
