When new consoles launch, it’s inevitable that 3-4 months afterwards, we find a trickle of games worth our time. Will this be true with the Wii?
The answer is “probably.” GameSpot took a look at the upcoming releases, and it’s safe to say that it won’t be stellar. Here’s the lineup:
February 14–Wii Play with Wii Remote–Nintendo
March 27–Disney’s Meet the Robinsons–Buena Vista
March–Bust-A-Move Bash–Majesco
March–Prince of Persia Rival Swords–Ubisoft
March–TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)–Ubisoft
March–Bionicle Heroes–Eidos
March–Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII–Ubisoft
Q1–Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07–EA
Q1–SSX Blur–EA
Q1–The Godfather Blackhand Edition–EA
Q1–Medal of Honor Vanguard–EA
Q1–Sonic and the Secret Rings–Sega
Let’s delve a little further, shall wii? Prince of Persia sounds awesome, doesn’t it? Not when you realize it was originally a PSP game. The Godfather will probably suck (Think about it, it’s EA; they’re going to hop on the gimmick bandwagon). SSX Blur looks…interesting.
What’s more intriguing, is the fact that only one Nintendo-made game is on that list: Wii Play. What happened to Metroid Prime 3? Or Super Mario Galaxy?
Maybe the Virtual Console will pick up the spare time. It has been confirmed that Mario Kart 64 will be next week’s big download, and this week we saw The Legend of Zelda: LttP. Who knows?
All I know is that Q1 is DEFINITELY a good time to catch up on those 2006 games you may have missed.
P.S. Whoops! Accidentally put “spring” up there.

This is dumb, there are some great games coming out:
SSX Blur looks amazing, built from the ground up for the Wii with some very nice graphics.
Sonic and the Secret Rings has been praised by many sites, such as IGN.
IGN did enjoy Tiger Woods.
You haven’t played the games, there hasn’t even been much info on most of them, so don’t be a jackass and say they all suck.
I both agree and disagree with you, Arbiter. Sure, this is the time to start seeing a couple larger releases than this lineup, but that doesn’t automatically make this lineup bad. Like Dave said above, both Sonic and SSX have been receiving many a praise across the interweb.
And, to be honest, I’d like to at least try out the new Godfather.
Same, if I got a Wii i’d try Godfather. Also Wii Play looks really cool.
Did I say SSX sucked? Did I say Sonic was going to suck? No! But I sure as hell can put a safe bet on games like Meet the Robinson’s, TMNT, and Bionicle’s.
To be honest, I’m sorta excited for a couple of those games. But they’re not the kind of heavy hitter we should have gotten. Take Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the 360. Q1 after the 360’s launch, and it was exactly the “heavy hitter” they needed. The Wii doesn’t have one this time around. Toxic, YOU have a GameFly, so its no skin off your back to give games like Godfather a chance. But what about those without GameFly? Those that when they buy a game, it’s once every few months, and it’s a big decision. We should be seeing more than ports. We should be seeing more original games.
Bionicle is ownage, you know it.
But yeah, I get your point. Here’s to future prospects like Manhunt, No More Heroes, and Smash Bros. Brawl!
